Entry Level Officers

Officer applicants to the Orange Police Department must be at least 21 years of age. They must possess a valid Connecticut drivers license and have completed at least sixty (60) college credits from a certified college or university. Applicants must then successfully complete a written examination, physical agility test, oral board examination, psychological examination, polygraph examination and medical screening. Successful candidates are then presented before the Board of Police Commissioners for selection.

In order to become a police officer in the Town of Orange, candidates must then complete a rigorous state certified training program. Most often this training is at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden, CT . These recruits reside there for approximately seventeen weeks during their training, after which they receive an additional ten to twelve weeks of field experience. Students might also be placed at a regional satellite commuter academy.

Hiring Certified Police Officers

The Orange Police Department is seeking POST Certified Officers and recently retired Connecticut State Troopers who are interested in full time patrol officer positions.

Salary ranges from $57,655.00 to $72,237.00 annually. The Town of Orange offers a Defined Contribution Plan with a 12% match and full vesting in 6 years, along with comprehensive medical benefits.

All Candidates must have 60 college credits and will be required to successfully complete a written examination, oral interview, and the current POST physical assessment (Cooper Test). In addition, candidates must successfully pass a background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examination including drug screening.
