Assistant Chief Edward Koether graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT. in 1976 then earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of New Haven in 1980. In 1980 he also graduated from the New Haven Police Academy and became a part time Police Officer there until joining the Orange Police Department as a full time Patrolman in November 1981. In 1986 Assistant Chief Koether graduated from the Connecticut State Police 15th Canine Training Troop and supervised our department’s K-9 Officers. He worked with his K-9, Deacon, until 1990 when Deacon retired. In 1987 Assistant Chief Koether was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1989 he took over supervision of the department’s DUI enforcement and training program and became the Department liaison with MADD. He has been an instructor in the Citizen’s Academy and helped to restructure the awards committee. He has had two assignments in the Investigative Services Unit as a Supervisor and a Unit Commander. In 1997 Assistant Chief Koether put together a team that designed and implemented the Department’s first website and has applied for and obtained on behalf of the Department several grants for patrol overtime costs, vehicles, video recording and radar equipment. In 2003 he was assigned command of the Department’s Motorcycle Unit. From May of 2005 until June of 2006 he was the President of the Orange Police Union and on June 16 of 2006 he was promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Police. |
