The Orange Visiting Nurses Association, founded in 1937,
is an "official" agency of the Town of Orange.
Prior to 1987, it was known as the Orange Public Health
Nursing Service. It is licensed by the State of Connecticut
Department of Public Health as a full service Home Health
Agency and is certified by Medicare and Medicaid. The Orange
VNA is a member of the Connecticut Association for Home
Health Care (CAHC) and is accredited by the Community Health
Accreditation Program (CHAP). The agency provides comprehensive
home health care services as well as health promotion, health
education and school health programs to the residents of
Orange.
The OVNA provides skilled nursing; physical, occupational
and speech therapy; medical social services; and, home health
aides to the homebound residents of Orange. Nutritional
counseling is also available. School health services are
provided to the Orange elementary schools.
The Nursing Board of Directors is the governing body for
the OVNA. In June 1979 an ordinance was passed establishing
a Board of Health with supervisory and policy review responsibilities
over the Board of Directors. The OVNA does not have an affiliating/networking relationship with any other entity.
Blood Pressure Screenings are offered on the third Monday
of every month at the OVNA office in the Clark Building (former library)
and on the third Tuesday of every month at the Silverbrook
Estates senior congregate housing complex, from 1:00 to 2:00
PM. An additional blood pressure screen/health guidance
clinic is now offered on the first Thursday of every month,
from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. This offers residents another opportunity
to have their blood pressure monitored or to receive information
and/or counseling on health-related matters. These sessions
are conducted by Registered Nurses, and are free and no
appointment is necessary. In addition, monthly "Coffee
Chats" are being held at the Orange Senior Center and
the Silverbrook Estates. Check their bulletins for dates
and times.
The OVNA also conducts flu vaccination clinics in the fall
and offers pneumonia vaccinations year-round. The OVNA has
health information on a variety of topics and staff members
are available to speak before community groups.
